Greg Abbott’s education plan will restore genuine local control to our school districts, giving schools the flexibility they need to operate effectively. Burdensome mandates from Austin only get in the way of allowing teachers to inspire our children to achieve and succeed. Phase two of the Educating Texans plan will remove bureaucratic barriers and allow parents, teachers and principals to develop the best approach to education for their children and community.

Every school, every community in Texas is different, and what may work for one may not be best for another. School districts, together with parents, should be permitted to exempt themselves from mandates relating to the day-to-day operation of their schools, giving educators the tools they need to foster a culture of aspiration that puts students on a path to success.

Part two of Educating Texans gets government out of the way and allows school districts to develop individualized approaches that are more responsive to the needs of their students, parents, teachers and communities.
