Greg Abbott recently released the first phase of his Educating Texans policy plan, which will ensure that Texas education rises to first place in the nation.

Part of the first phase of his plan involves requiring prekindergarten programs that receive state funding to set benchmarks and evaluate improvement, and to report this data to the TEA.

To be eligible to receive state funds under this proposed increased investment in pre-k, a district of district-affiliated prekindergarten provider would have to meet specified requirements in terms of curriculum, teacher quality, academic performance, and parental involvement.

These benchmarks will allow the state of Texas to ensure that all of its districts offer high-quality prekindergarten programs that prepare children for kindergarten and beyond.
