In his State of the State speech, Governor Greg Abbott designated transportation funding one of his five emergency items. Governor Abbott’s goals for transportation funding are to:
- Ensure money raised for roads will be spent on roads
- Dedicate half the revenue from the state’s vehicle sales tax to transportation
- End diversions of gas tax revenue to purposes other than transportation
