EDINBURG – Following tonight’s debate, leaders across Texas are declaring victory for Greg Abbott – among them former Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade, Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos and former McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez.

“As Secretary of State, I had the privilege of working closely with Greg Abbott in his capacity as Attorney General,” said the Honorable Hope Andrade. “I know firsthand that Greg Abbott has been a consistent fighter for Texas values, a leading challenger against federal overreach and a defender of our state sovereignty; I know he’ll do the same as governor. Having been the only candidate in tonight’s debate to effectively articulate a vision for the future of Texas, I’m honored to support my friend Greg Abbott and share with Texans the many reasons he is the best choice for our state’s top office.”

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos shared his support for Greg Abbott, saying, “There is no one who understands better the absolute necessity of preserving Texas values for future generations than Greg Abbott. Greg Abbott was the only candidate on the stage tonight to outline a plan to elevate Texas to greater heights. Whether in education, healthcare, border security or jobs, Greg Abbott has a plan to make Texas even greater than it already is. I’m proud to be a part of this historic night in the Rio Grande Valley and even prouder of the momentum that’s continuing to build here in support of Greg Abbott for governor.”

“Greg Abbott was the clear standout in tonight’s debate due to his inspiring vision to build an even better and create greater opportunity for all Texans, including those of us in the Rio Grande Valley,” said former McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez. “Greg Abbott displayed real leadership by focusing on the issues that matter, like jobs, education and roads. He has shown throughout his campaign that he is ready to work closely with us here in South Texas to ensure we have a voice in our government. With Greg Abbott as governor, I know Texas’ future will never be brighter.”
