A few hours after the Texas Association of Realtors said it has endorsed Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for re-election, the mega- professional organization of 90,000 members released its whole slate of political endorsements.
The association’s conservative Republican persuasion remains firmly entrenched:
• TAR is throwing its weight behind Greg Abbott for governor. He will be challenged by State Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth);
• Other picks are George P. Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush, for Texas Land Commissioner. He faces a party challenge by David Watts of Gilmore. The Democratic candidate is John Cook of El Paso, while wildcard candidate Kinky Friedman is also in the race;
• State Sen. Glenn Hegar of Katy is TAR’s choice for Comptroller of Public Accounts in a highly contested race, which includes three other Republicans and Democratic contender Mike Collier of Houston;
• TAR supports Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht for the post of Chief Justice, which he currently holds, as well as the retention of Justices Jeff Brown and Phil Johnson, all appointees of Gov. Rick Perry.
