HOUSTON – Governor Greg Abbott today participated in a fireside chat with Representative Caroline Harris Davila at the Texas Youth Summit, where he called on young conservatives to serve in politics or government to help make our state and country exceptional.
“Faith and family shaped who I am long before I entered politics. When tragedy struck and left me paralyzed, I could have quit, but instead, with the grace of God, I found strength and purpose,” said Governor Abbott. “Our lives are not defined or determined by how we are challenged, but by how we rise above them. We must never give up, never give in, and never be intimidated. That same calling is within each of you — to serve, to lead, and to make Texas and America even greater.”
During his remarks, Governor Abbott reflected on the legacy of Charlie Kirk, urging young conservatives to honor his life by never backing down in the face of intimidation. He called on Texans to remain steadfast in their faith, to share the gospel, and to defend conservative values with confidence and clarity. Governor Abbott emphasized that Kirk’s legacy will endure through those committed to carrying his torch and ensuring that his voice continues to shape the future of America.
The Governor then highlighted Texas’ record of conservative victories, pointing to landmark achievements such as defending the Ten Commandments monument at the State Capitol before the U.S. Supreme Court, deploying unprecedented resources to secure the border, and delivering historic school choice for families despite fierce opposition from teachers’ unions.
Additionally Governor Abbott pointed to Texas’ rise as the eighth-largest economy in the world, touting Texas’ unmatched job growth, a world-class business climate, and historic investments from companies like Samsung, Tesla, and Texas Instruments. The Governor emphasized Texas’ leadership in semiconductors, innovation, and space exploration with the creation of the new Texas Space Commission. Finally, Governor Abbott called on the crowd to carry forward the torch of freedom, reject the poison of hate, and ensure Texas remains the national model for prosperity, liberty, and American exceptionalism.
