TMPA and affiliates rally support for Abbott at Houston Police Officers’ Union
HOUSTON – Governor Greg Abbott today received the endorsement of the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) and other key law enforcement and public safety organizations from across the state of Texas. At an event hosted by the Houston Police Officers’ Union, officers cited Governor Abbott’s unwavering leadership, strong support for law enforcement, and proven record of keeping Texas communities safe and secure. The Governor was joined by TMPA First Vice President Bill Nelson, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association President Sgt. T.J. Philips (DPSOA PAC), Austin Police Association (APA) President Michael Bullock, and several other law enforcement organizations from across the Lone Star State.
“Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep Texans safe,” said Governor Abbott. “As Governor, I have enacted the strongest public safety laws in Texas history, secured our border, and ensured officers have the tools, training, and resources needed to do their jobs safely. I will continue to back the blue, enforce the law, and keep Texas safe.”
“Texas Municipal Police Association is endorsing Governor Greg Abbott for the 2026 Texas gubernatorial election,” said TMPA Executive Director Mitch Landry. “Governor Abbott has consistently supported law enforcement over the years, signing several pieces of legislation that protect police. This legislation has helped police across the state by introducing laws that stop cities from defunding the police and increasing penalties for criminals who target law enforcement. We know his policies will protect law enforcement, ensuring us a safer work environment so we can continue to serve and protect the state of Texas.”
“The Texas Municipal Police Association has supported Greg Abbott since the very beginning of his statewide career, first endorsing him for Attorney General in 2002 because of his strong commitment to the rule of law and public safety. For more than two decades, he has backed Texas law enforcement, opposed efforts to defund the police, and fought to ensure officers have the resources, protections, and respect they deserve. That is why TMPA proudly endorses Governor Abbott as he continues working to make Texas the safest state in the nation,” said TMPA First Vice President Bill Nelson.
“The Political Action Committee of the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association, representing the men and women who proudly serve and protect the people of Texas, is proud to endorse Governor Abbott for re-election,” said DPSOA PAC President Philips. “Governor Abbott has been an unwavering champion for law enforcement and public safety. Under his leadership, Texas remains a place where families can live, work, and thrive in safe, secure communities. He has strengthened border security, defended those who protect others, and delivered the tools, training, and resources officers need to do their jobs safely and effectively. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Governor Abbott in service to the people of this great State.”
“On behalf of the Austin Police Association, we are proud to endorse Governor Abbott. At a time when Austin became the epicenter of radical policy experiments that undermined public safety and eroded respect for the rule of law, Governor Abbott stood firm as a steadfast ally to law enforcement,” said APA President Bullock. “While local policies did more to weaken law and order in our capital city than uphold it, the Governor remained committed to ensuring Texas maintains strong, consistent standards in supporting the men and women who protect our communities. His leadership continues to make a real difference in an ongoing battle against soft-on-crime policies that undermine public safety, and Texas is safer because of it.”
“The Professional Bondsmen of Texas is the ‘Voice of the Texas Bail Industry.’ PBT is proud to endorse Greg Abbott for re-election as our Governor,” said Board Member Ken W. Good. “Governor Abbott stood for Texans to defend its border when President Joe Biden refused. Governor Abbott also worked with the Texas Legislature to strengthen our criminal laws to address gangs, career criminals, and organized crime. Texas is stronger because of Greg Abbott. Please join me in voting for Greg Abbott.”
“The Organization of Spanish-Speaking Officers (OSSO) proudly supports Texas Governor Greg Abbott in his campaign for reelection,” said President of OSSO Gabe Garcia. “As an organization committed to serving the Spanish-speaking community, OSSO recognizes the importance of strong leadership and effective governance in addressing the unique challenges faced by our diverse population. Governor Abbott’s dedication to promoting economic growth, enhancing educational opportunities, and ensuring public safety aligns with OSSO’s mission to advocate for the needs of our community. Together, we believe that by endorsing his leadership, we can continue to make positive strides for all Texans.”
“Governor Abbott’s proven leadership and support for Law Enforcement is unwavering,” said David Cuevas, Executive Director. “That is why the Harris County Deputies’ Organization stands with Governor Abbott.”
“Governor Abbott has proven his steadfast support to Texas law enforcement and especially Sheriffs through his commitment of securing the Texas international border and bail bond reform, keeping violent criminals behind the jail bars,” said Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.
