Largest Union Endorsement of a Republican Governor in Texas History

HOUSTON — Governor Greg Abbott today was joined by a broad coalition of Texas job creators and union leaders as they formally endorse his reelection campaign. This represents the largest union coalition to ever endorse a Republican candidate for Governor in Texas.

“Texas would not be the strong, thriving business state it is today without the hardworking men and women who power our economy,” said Governor Abbott. “It is the entrepreneurs who create jobs, and the highly skilled workforce that fills them, that have elevated Texas to the pinnacle of business in the United States. I am incredibly proud to partner with both job creators and the unions who support them as we work together to keep Texas the greatest state in the nation.”

The Governor was joined by Plumbers Local Union 68 Business Manager Wayne Lord, International Brotherhood of Teamsters Southern Region Vice President Local 745 and Joint Council 80 President Brent Taylor, Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) Director of Community Relations Tracey Gonzales, Texas Retailers Association Executive Director John McCord, and many other union and business leaders.

“We share Governor Abbott’s vision of creating life-changing economic opportunities for Texans through workforce training and employment,” said Business Manager of Plumbers Local Union 68 Lord. “His leadership has strengthened partnerships between business, industry, and labor, expanded critical workforce training programs, and created unprecedented economic opportunities across Texas. For these reasons, Plumbers Local Union 68 proudly endorses Governor Abbott for governor.”

“We are proud to announce our endorsement of Greg Abbott for his fourth term as Governor,” said International Brotherhood of Teamsters Southern Region Vice President Local 745 and Joint Council 80 President Taylor. “Governor Abbott has kept an open door to the teamsters union during his tenure, willing and eager to partner with us on job creation and workplace protections, as we have shown at the national level.”

“The Texas Oil and Gas Association Good Government Committee is proud to endorse Governor Abbott for reelection,” said TXOGA Director of Community Relations for Houston and Southeast Texas Gonzales. “Under Governor Abbott’s leadership, Texas’ oil and natural gas industry has reached record levels. In fiscal year 2025, the industry employed nearly 500,000 Texans. Those jobs conservatively support nearly 1.4 million positions across the Texas economy, with some analysts estimating the total exceeds 2 million jobs supported by the industry. Since being elected, Governor Abbott has been a steadfast champion of developing Texas’ natural resources, helping fuel not only our nation but economies around the world.”

“The Texas Retailers Association proudly endorses Governor Abbott for reelection,” said Texas Retailers Association Executive Director McCord. “Governor Abbott’s pro-business leadership has made Texas the premier destination for retailers and consumers alike. His commitment to keeping taxes low, reducing regulatory burdens, and maintaining a strong economy has enabled our members to thrive and serve communities across Texas. Retailers are the backbone of local economies, employing millions of Texans and serving every community in our state. Governor Abbott understands that when businesses succeed, families and communities prosper. His focus on public safety, workforce development, and economic growth has created an environment where retailers can invest, expand, and create opportunities for Texans. We look forward to his continued leadership as we work together to improve the lives of both retailers and customers across the Lone Star State.”

“Governor Abbott has demonstrated his commitment to a low-tax, low regulatory environment allowing businesses and individuals to flourish,” said Texas Mortgage and Bankers Association President Erin Dee. “The strength of Governor Abbott’s leadership is reflected in the fact that more people are moving to Texas each day. Texas continues to be a great place to buy and own a home and this is a direct reflection of Governor Abbott’s commitment to the citizens of Texas. We are honored to support his reelection.”

“The Fort Bend Business Coalition is proud to support pro-business candidates like Governor Greg Abbott,” said Fort Bend Business Coalition Executive Director Dave Johnston. “Governor Abbott has always been a friend to the Fort Bend business community by slashing red tape and helping companies in need. The Fort Bend Business Coalition is excited to endorse Governor Abbott for reelection.”

“The Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Texas is honored to endorse Governor Abbott for reelection,” said the President of Beyer Plumbing and President of Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (APHCC) of Texas James Beyer. “Governor Abbott has proven to be a steadfast advocate for the plumbing, heating, and cooling industry—supporting policies that reduce regulatory burdens, protect small business owners, and ensure that skilled tradespeople can thrive in Texas. His leadership has created an environment where our contractors can focus on delivering quality services to Texas families and businesses without unnecessary government interference. Plumbers protect the health, welfare, and safety of our state, and in alignment with Governor Abbott’s agenda, APHCC seeks to strengthen and grow the workforce through bringing the trades to the high schools and promoting the industry across the state. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Governor Abbott to advance the interests of our industry and the thousands of Texans we employ.”

“Independent Insurance Agents know how important steady leadership is for Texas families and businesses,” said Independent Insurance Agents of Texas President and Executive Director Marit Peters. “Governor Abbott has a clear commitment to economic growth, prioritizing affordability for Texas families, and maintaining our strong business climate. We are thrilled to support his reelection!”
