AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today received the endorsement of the Music Venue Alliance – Texas, an organization representing over 800 live music venues across the state.
“The Texas music industry generates more than $31 billion annually,” said Governor Abbott. “Our venues draw visitors from around the globe, attract a talented workforce, and support business recruitment and expansion across Texas. I will always support local musicians and small businesses as we build a stronger, more prosperous Texas than ever before.”
“Governor Abbott has always been a champion for us. If it weren’t for his efforts to reopen Texas, over 500 small live music venues across our great state would have remained closed,” said Music Venue Alliance – Texas Cofounder and Chairman of Edwin Cabaniss. “We witnessed how this negatively impacted our peers in other states. Governor Abbott also played a key role in leading the bipartisan Texas Music Incubator Rebate program. This initiative is a game-changer that will support Texas venues with over $200 million in funding over the next decade, ensuring that our Texas music and culture continue to thrive.”
Governor Abbott has supported policies that strengthen and sustain Texas’ thriving music industry. He signed into law the Texas Music Incubator Rebate Program, administered by the Texas Music Office, which provides tax rebates to eligible music venues and festival promoters. The program allows participants to reinvest revenue into local communities and support live music across Texas. Additionally, the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program connects cities and towns with resources to foster industry development, encourage economic growth and position Texas communities as premier destinations for artists and audiences. Together, these initiatives reflect Governor Abbott’s commitment to ensure that Texas remains a leading home for live music.
