LUBBOCK – Governor Greg Abbott today met with local farmers, ranchers, and small business owners to discuss his commitment to lowering the cost of living for Texas families and supporting rural Texas communities.
“Rural Texas is essential to the strength and success of our state,” said Governor Abbott. “We are making historic investments in our rural schools, expanding access to healthcare, and working to lower the everyday costs facing hardworking Texans. From Lubbock to communities across West Texas, we will ensure Texans have the opportunity to thrive and keep more of their hard-earned money.”
Earlier this year, Governor Abbott announced $1.4 billion in funding for rural hospitals across Texas, over $1 million towards West Texas veterans and their families, $11 million in public safety grants, and major expansions to accessibility for telehealth and telemedicine in rural communities. The Governor also highlighted his actions to protect rural communities from the rapid growth of data centers in Texas.
Today’s discussion builds on Governor Abbott’s broader Keep Texas Affordable agenda to lower the everyday costs facing Texas families. The Governor’s proposals will cut property taxes, keep tuition and fees frozen at Texas public colleges and universities, lower home and auto insurance premiums, make healthcare premiums and life-saving medications more affordable, reduce housing costs and expand choice and competition in the electricity market.
