GAINESVILLE – Governor Greg Abbott today joined rural Texas families and business owners at a local hat manufacturer to discuss his plan to lower everyday costs, strengthen rural communities, support farmers and ranchers, and keep Texas affordable. The Governor was joined by Representative David Spiller.
“Texas is the economic engine of America, and we are going to keep it that way by making Texas the most affordable state in the nation,” said Governor Abbott. “From cutting property taxes by more than $3,000 a year for the average homeowner to lowering the cost of health care, insurance, housing and college, we are putting more hard-earned money back in the pockets of hardworking Texans.”
During the discussion, Governor Abbott heard from rural Texans about the rising costs they face—from housing and property taxes to other everyday expenses. The Governor highlighted how his affordability agenda directly addresses those concerns. He discussed how his property tax plan will empower Texas taxpayers, rein in local government spending, and help the average Texas homeowner save more than $3,000 per year. Additionally, Governor Abbott also discussed the historic $7.5 billion federal reimbursement for Texas’ border security efforts during Biden’s open border crisis.
Governor Abbott also discussed the rise of data centers, and how guardrails protect rural communities from their rapid growth. The Governor outlined his standards that data centers must comply with, including requiring them to pay for their own electricity infrastructure, not take water needed by communities, not take power needed by Texas families, and ensure they do not disrupt neighborhoods or rural communities. The Governor was clear that any data center that fails to meet these standards will be denied connection to the Texas grid.
