GINA: INCOME TAXES FOR ALL! IT JUST ‘MAKES SENSE.’
AUSTIN — New billboards across Texas are exposing Gina Hinojosa’s record of supporting higher taxes — including her longtime push for a state income tax. For Hinojosa, more taxes are the fix. During her time in the Texas Legislature, she voted in favor of higher property taxes 40 separate times, and supported taxes on inheritance, taxes on retirement account transactions, and even taxes on animal feed. But Hinojosa didn’t stop there. She even called for Texans to start paying a state income tax — a draconian, job-killing tax that radical Blue states like California, New York, and Illinois have relied on for decades.
“For over a decade, Gina Hinojosa repeatedly advocated for a state income tax — a socialist idea that hardworking Texans overwhelmingly rejected. She calls it the ‘third leg of the stool’ and voted for an income tax as a State Representative. Apparently, voting to increase Texans’ property taxes isn’t enough for Gina – she wants a piece of your paycheck, too.”
— Eduardo Leal, Texans For Greg Abbott Press Secretary
Gina Hinojosa has been advocating for a state income tax in Texas since 2016.
- In 2019, Hinojosa voted against the constitutional amendment that banned a state income tax for Texans. HJR 38 (86R)
- In a 2016 interview with KXAN, Gina Hinojosa said, “We rely so heavily in the state on property taxes, too heavily, in my opinion, because we don’t have, we don’t have, the third leg of that stool… income taxes.” (YouTube)
- In a speech at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin she said that Texas is “missing” a state income tax and that it was the “third leg of the stool that we need.” (YouTube)
New billboards across Texas are exposing Gina Hinojosa’s reprehensible record in the Texas House of Representatives. Hinojosa wants to let China buy Texas land, to defund the police, a state income tax, men undressing in girls’ locker rooms, and violent criminal illegals roaming free on Texas streets.
