TAX HIKER HINOJOSA VOTED AGAINST STATE INCOME TAX BAN
AUSTIN — Tax Hiker Hinojosa is gaslighting Texans on her record in support of higher taxes. The truth is that Gina Hinojosa voted AGAINST the very ban on a state income tax she now says she supports. But that’s not all, she also said — in her own words — that a state income tax was the missing “third leg” of the taxing stool and that it “makes sense.”
“Gina Hinojosa spent more than a decade advocating for a state income tax. She’s now straight-up lying to Texas voters in her recent claim to be against a state income tax. Hinojosa said a state income tax ‘makes sense’ and then voted AGAINST the very constitutional amendment she trumpets in her new ad. Tax Hiker Hinojosa can run from her record, but she can’t hide from it.”

Gina Hinojosa has been advocating for a state income tax since 2016.
- In a 2016 interview with KXAN, Gina Hinojosa said, “We rely so heavily in the state on property taxes, too heavily, in my opinion, because we don’t have … the third leg of that stool … income taxes.” (YouTube)
- In an interview with First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin she said that Texas is “missing” a state income tax and that it was the “third leg of the stool that we need.” (YouTube)
