ROCKWALL – Governor Greg Abbott today outlined his plan to crack down on violent repeat offenders, strengthen criminal prosecutions, and keep dangerous criminals off Texas streets during a roundtable with law enforcement leaders. The Governor also honored officers who put their lives on the line to protect Texans in recognition of Law Enforcement Appreciation Month.

Governor Abbott was joined by Senator Bob Hall, Representative Katrina Pierson, Rockwall County Sheriff Terry Garrett, Hunt County Sheriff Terry Jones, Heath Department of Public Safety Chief Brandon Seery, Royse City Police Department Chief Kirk Aldridge, and members of the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas (CLEAT), Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), and Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association (DPSOA).

“Law Enforcement is common sense,” said Governor Abbott. “Public safety is common sense. It also happens to be a necessity. Some people are running for office who are against our law enforcement officers and public safety. I know that when the time comes, voters will vote in favor of common sense.”

During the roundtable, Governor Abbott discussed his proposal to establish a statewide prosecutor to support overburdened local prosecutors and ensure criminals are held accountable. Additionally, Governor Abbott highlighted the expansion of the Texas Repeat Offender Task Force to Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin to target and arrest dangerous repeat offenders.

Governor Abbott also drew a sharp contrast with Gina Hinojosa’s anti-law enforcement voting record. While Hinojosa claims to support law enforcement, she in fact voted to defund the police and opposed legislation to strengthen protections for officers assaulted in the line of duty.
