AUSTIN – Texans for Greg Abbott this week released a new video ad highlighting Gina Hinojosa’s record restricting law-abiding Texans’ Second Amendment right. Specifically, her support of an additional license to carry a hunting rifle. In the Texas Legislature, Hinojosa repeatedly voted against measures to protect Texans’ constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
“Texas is number one in defending the Second Amendment and the right of law-abiding Texans to protect their families, their homes, and their freedoms. Gina Hinojosa repeatedly voted against those protections. Texans deserve a governor who will defend their constitutional rights, not restrict them.”
– Catherine Frazier, Texans for Greg Abbott Communications Director
- In 2017, Hinojosa authored an article for the Texas Tribune that called for, among other restrictions, a new “license to carry” for long guns. (Gina Hinojosa, Texas Tribune, 11/8/17).
- In 2019, Hinojosa penned an op-ed in the Texas Tribune in which she described her unease for “Texas gun culture,” including how the “sight of someone carrying a gun still seems unnatural to me” and how Texas civilians simply never “carried a handgun for ‘self-protection'” where she was raised. (The false narrative of Texas gun culture,Gina Hinojosa, 8/19/2019).
- In 2019, Hinojosa voted against defending Texans’ right to possess a firearm to protect themselves in their homes. (86R, HB 302)
- In 2019, Hinojosa voted against legislation allowing licensed handgun carry in churches and other places of worship. (86R, SB 535)
