AUSTIN – The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board met with number one radical Democrat Gina Hinojosa and determined “she not only doesn’t have the right plan to advance Texas, her ideas would hurt the state.”

“During the primaries, The Dallas Morning News gave High Tax Hinojosa their official stamp of approval as the Democratic candidate for Texas Governor. Upon learning the truth about Hinojosa’s half-baked policy proposals and dangerous voting record, The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board apparently changed their mind.”

— Catherine Frazier, Texans for Greg Abbott Communications Director

  • The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board denied Hinojosa its endorsement in the General Election after supporting her in the primaries, saying, “her two main policy ideas … could do the state great harm,” she “doesn’t have the right plan to advance Texas,” and “Hinojosa, of Austin, is not the answer.” (The Dallas Morning News, The Dallas Morning News Editorial Board, 10/17/26)

Gina Hinojosa’s record is shameful:

  • In an October 11, 2026 interview with MSNOW, Hinojosa defended her support of a state income tax with ignorance: “Silly me.” (Connect with Jacob Soboroff, 10/11/26)
  • In an October 13, 2026 interview with CBS Texas, Hinojosa tried disputing again her vote against a constitutional ban on a state income tax. The anchor pointed out that “Hinojosa’s position [on a state income tax] isn’t quite consistent with legislative records.” (CBS Texas Interview, 10/13/26)
  • In September 2016, during a Texas Tribune forum, Hinojosa offered her opposition to another tax cut at the state level. She said, “No, I don’t think we need to make more decisions at the state level to cut taxes.”(The Daily Texan, Sarah Philips, 9/16/16) (@texastribune, YouTube, 9/15/16)
  • In a 2016 interview with KXAN, Gina Hinojosa said, “We don’t have … the third leg of that stool … income taxes.” (YouTube)
  • In 2019, Hinojosa voted against banning a state income tax in the Texas Constitution. (HJR 38, 86R)
  • Over her four years on the AISD School board, Hinojosa voted to increase AISD property taxes on the average Austin home by nearly $900 total. (FY 2018 Budget Table 20)
  • Hinojosa voted 40 times to increase Texans’ property taxes. She was so desperate to hide her votes that Gina For Texas sent a cease-and-desist letter to multiple Texas TV stations. (LINK)
  • In 2021, Hinojosa voted in favor of boys competing in girls’ sports in public schools. (HB 25, 87(3))
  • In 2023, Hinojosa voted against protecting children from dangerous, experimental, and life-altering sex change surgeries. (SB 14, 88R)
  • In 2025, Hinojosa voted to allow for parents to be prosecuted for child abuse and have their child taken away if they refuse to affirm their child’s new gender identity. (HB 1106, 89R)
  • In 2025, Hinojosa voted in favor of men and women sharing the same bathroom. (SB 8, 89(2))
  • In 2021, Hinojosa voted against legislation protecting county law enforcement from being defunded. (SB 23, 87R)
  • In 2020, Gina Hinojosa defended Austin’s $150 million cuts to the police budget. (X)
