AUSTIN – Gina Hinojosa’s anti-billionaire and anti-data center campaign for governor is directly linked to an OpenAI co-founder and out-of-state billionaire and multi-millionaire donors – along with the radical progressive organizing groups they bankroll. All of them are collectively on a mission to undermine commonsense Texas values.
“Gina Hinojosa won’t stop lying to Texans. She has built her campaign on the message that she is fighting billionaire and data center interests in Texas — yet, Hinojosa herself is being funded by an OpenAI founder, millionaire and billionaire elites, and the progressive groups they bankroll, who share her crazy out-of-touch values. Texans from every corner of the state are sticking with Governor Abbott because they care about the commonsense principles that make Texas, Texas.”
— Catherine Frazier, Texans for Greg Abbott Communications Director
Hinojosa’s top donors are out-of-state Democrats, including radical Illinois billionaire Governor JB Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Hinojosa’s latest filing on October 25, 2026, reveals contributions from the following Silicon Valley liberal activists, progressive groups, and liberal wealthy elites:
- Texas Majority PAC, funded by George Soros — Democrat political organization described by The New York Times as “the main vehicle for the George Soros contributions” in Texas.
- Jessica Livingston, OpenAI founding investor — Silicon Valley Iiberal activist and major Democratic political donor.
- National Education Association (NEA) Fund, the political fund of the nation’s largest teachers’ union, a major contributor to progressive Democrat causes.
- Texas State Teachers Association PAC, the political arm of the Texas teachers’ union affiliated with the NEA.
- Texas Organizing Project PAC, a progressive political organization that has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from George Soros and has been linked to efforts to bail out violent criminal defendants.
- Way to Lead Texas, a progressive political network that recruits, trains, and supports left-wing candidates for public office.
- Rory Gates, son of Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates.
- David Gochman, former CEO of Academy Sports + Outdoors and member of the company’s founding family.
- Liz Simons, Democratic political donor associated with the Simons family fortune and Renaissance Technologies hedge fund.
- Cade Bernsen, Beaumont-based personal injury and trial attorney.
- Barry Munger, son of the late billionaire Charlie Munger, former vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.
Hinojosa’s support from wealthy Democrat activists is nothing new. In September 2026, she was in socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s NYC for a fundraiser, rubbing shoulders with the upper crust of New York society in Manhattan. Additionally, soon after her Soros-supported campaign launch in October 2025, Hinojosa was back in NYC in November 2025 for a “Meet & Greet Fundraiser.”
Money and support from George Soros was instrumental in launching Hinojosa’s bid for Texas governor and sustaining her campaign operations:
- Hinojosa kicked off her campaign in October 2025 in the Rio Grande Valley, where she thanked “Blue Texas” for “hosting.” Blue Texas is “an ambitious statewide campaign that will invest eight figures to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2026” funded by the Texas Majority PAC and the Texas Democratic Party.
- Texas Majority PAC, according to The New York Times, is “the main vehicle for the George Soros contributions” in Texas. It also is one of the major Democratic groups that merged to create the “Texas Together” coalition — which has co-hosted with Hinojosa a series of campaign events across Texas. According to her own July 27 press release, “The Hinojosa campaign partnered with local county parties along with Texas Together” to pull these events off.
