EL PASO, Texas — The man who hopes to replace Gov. Rick Perry stopped by the borderland Thursday.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott visited the Tony Lama Factory in the Lower Valley just three days after formally announcing his bid for the governor’s seat.

Abbott discussed many hot topics with supporters, including border security and immigration reform.

Unlike Perry, Abbot said he plans to spend a lot of time in the borderland.

“I’ll be coming to El Paso often to connect with the people here. I will be talking about how as governor I want to be working to create jobs right here in El Paso, Texas, but also using my three decades of being married to a Latina to connect with the Hispanic community right here in El Paso,” Abbott said.

So far, Abbott is considered the front-runner to gain the Republican nomination.
