Greg Abbott’s Educating Texans plan will make Texas education first in the nation.
The first phase of Greg Abbott’s Educating Texans plan proposes creating Literacy Achievement Academies with curriculum focused on reading, writing, and incorporating technology, designed to improve the professional development of teachers in the critical area of literacy.
My plan focuses on helping K-3 teachers become expert literacy teachers. My plan will equip K-3 teachers – and their principals – with new and innovative resources. This is particularly intended to help districts with underperforming schools to advance young readers even faster.

Educators and administrators should endeavor to continuously review and improve their skills and expertise. Professional development is one of the few strategies schools have to strengthen teachers’ performance levels. Educators have a responsibility to apply the lessons learned in professional development exercises to increase student achievement.
