Effective school governance is an essential ingredient to a successful education system. As the husband of a former educator, I know that the future of Texas education lies in the hands of our parents, teachers and principals.
To elevate Texas to first in the nation for education, we must refocus our priorities to center on parental involvement, local control and education transparency and quality. That’s why the second phase of my Educating Texans plan emphasizes:
- The importance of genuine local control.
- Parental engagement through empowerment and transparency.
- Improving teacher and principal quality in our schools.
A top-down, mandate driven education system doesn’t produce the results that Texans deserve. We must set high expectations, provide our schools with the tools they need to succeed – and then get out of the way!
Together, we will foster a culture of aspiration and achievement for our families and our schools – and ensure that every Texas child has the opportunity to succeed.
