GINA HINOJOSA: EXTREME LIBERAL – FARTHER LEFT THAN SOCIALIST JAMES TALARICO

AUSTIN — Each session Gina Hinojosa has been in the Texas Legislature, she has been named among the top eight most progressive Democrats – even more liberal than James Talarico. In fact, one of those years, Hinojosa was rated the number one most liberal member. The radical recognition is calculated based on voting record – the one thing from which Hinojosa repeatedly hides.

“’Unapologetic progressive’ Gina Hinojosa runs even farther to the left than James Talarico. Gina is lying, but her votes don’t. She can’t hide from the disturbing record she upheld during her 10 years in the Texas House: hiking taxes, slashing paychecks, defunding law enforcement, and supporting punishments for parents who allegedly ‘misgender’ their child.”

–  Catherine Frazier, Texans for Greg Abbott Communications Director

Every year, Gina Hinojosa anchored the far-left socialist wing of the Democratic House caucus, according to annual rankings by Mark P. Jones, political science fellow at Rice University’s James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. Even radical socialist Democrat James Talarico did not rank as far left during his time in the Texas House of Representatives:

85th Legislature (2017-2018) – Gina Hinojosa, #3 Most Liberal

86th Legislature (2019-2020) – Gina Hinojosa, #1 Most Liberal (James Talarico, #25 Most Liberal)

87th Legislature (2021-2022) – Gina Hinojosa, #4 Most Liberal (James Talarico, #28 Most Liberal)

88th Legislature (2023-2024) – Gina Hinojosa, #6 Most Liberal (James Talarico, #16 Most Liberal)

89th Legislature (2025-2026) – Gina Hinojosa, #8 Most Liberal (James Talarico, #29 Most Liberal)

At the 2018 Texas Democratic Convention, Hinojosa said, “I’ve never been more proud to be a member of a party of a bunch of bleeding-heart liberals.” (Ken Herman, Austin American-Statesman, 6/24/18)

In 2023, Hinojosa said that there was “no one more partisan” than her: “…[L]et me back up and say, there is no one more partisan than myself. I am chair of the House Democratic campaign committee, and I don’t shy away from my partisanship.”(Teaching Texas Podcast, 10/6/23, 17:20)

On radical socialist Democrat James Talarico, Hinojosa said, “We are in lockstep … we are friends, and allies, and we are working very closely.”
