AUSTIN — High Tax Hinojosa has the deluded idea that a more affordable Texas is made possible through higher taxes. Gina Hinojosa said that “the biggest area in which the state can effect affordability is through taxing.” In the Texas Legislature, Hinojosa supported the creation of a state income tax, voted to increase property taxes 40 times, and voted to tax Texans’ inheritance. Yet in the last week, she has flatly lied about this record time and again.

“Gina Hinojosa knows that hardworking Texans don’t want higher taxes and smaller paychecks, so she continues to lie about her reprehensible voting record. Gina’s votes would have imposed more taxes on Texans, yet she continues to deny her vote records that are public for all to see. That’s why Bernie Sanders is in Texas this week campaigning on her behalf. Voters won’t fall for Gina’s pathetic attempt to gaslight them.”

  • In an October 13, 2026 interview with CBS Texas, Hinojosa tried again disputing her vote against a constitutional ban on a state income tax. The anchor pointed out that “Hinojosa’s position [on a state income tax] isn’t quite consistent with legislative records.” (CBS Texas Interview, 10/13/26)
  • Hinojosa voted 40 times to increase Texans’ property taxes. She was so desperate to hide her votes that Gina For Texas sent a cease-and-desist letter to multiple Texas TV stations. (LINK)
