AUSTIN – Today is the last day to register to vote. As Texans prepare to cast their ballots on November 3, it is vital that they know the facts about Gina Hinojosa and her track record when it comes to election integrity. Hinojosa voted against requiring ID for mail-in ballots, against increasing the penalty of illegal voting to a felony, against criminalizing ballot harvesting, and against allowing the Attorney General to prosecute election crimes in Texas. When given the chance, Hinojosa even refused to make clear that only United States citizens can vote in Texas elections.

“Governor Abbott has taken vital steps to ensure the safety and security of Texas elections. Meanwhile, Gina Hinojosa has repeatedly worked to undo those protections. Today is the final day for Texans to register to vote in the November election – they should have confidence in the integrity of our elections, something Gina refuses to guarantee.”

— Catherine Frazier, Texans for Greg Abbott Communications Director

  • Hinojosa was derelict in her duty to vote for the bill that required ID for mail-in ballots, elevated the penalty for lying while registering to vote, and criminalized ballot harvesting. (SB 1, 87(2))
  • Hinojosa voted against increasing the penalty for illegal voting to a second-degree felony. (HB 574, 87R)
  • Hinojosa voted against giving the Texas Attorney General the ability to prosecute election crimes. (SB 12, 89(2))
  • Hinojosa refused to stand up for election integrity – she was absent for the vote to require in the Texas Constitution that voters must be United States citizens. (SJR 37, 89R)
