AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott last night championed the conservative values that make Texas one of the best states in the nation and contrasted Texas’ success with failing Democrat-led states during his keynote address at the New York Republican Party’s (NYGOP) 2024 Gala in New York City.
“Texas has evolved from a Democrat-led state to a Republican stronghold, and that transformation has been instrumental in fostering the freedom and opportunity that helps define our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “Our strong conservative policies have propelled the booming Texas economy to even greater heights, with our world-class business climate, reasonable regulations, and highly skilled workforce cementing our position as America’s economic juggernaut. Texas also continues to step up in response to President Biden’s reckless and dangerous open border policies. There are three laws that President Biden refuses to enforce: deny illegal immigration, detain illegal immigrants, and build border walls and border barriers. Instead, he tears down Texas’ efforts to secure the border. Texas will continue to use our constitutional authority to secure the border to keep all Americans safe.”
The Governor was joined at the gala by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Congressman Lee Zeldin, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley, NYGOP Chairman Ed Cox, and other elected officials and Republican leaders.
During his remarks, Governor Abbott highlighted Texas’ back-the-blue policies, pointing to a law he signed that defunds any city that defunds their police. The Governor also touted Texas for having the fastest-growing economy in the nation, with more Fortune 500 headquarters and more new jobs than any other state in the nation. Additionally, Governor Abbott lauded Texas’ ongoing fight against President Biden’s reckless and dangerous open border policies, mentioning the state’s unprecedented border security mission efforts to deter and repel illegal immigration into the country.
