BULLARD – Governor Greg Abbott today continued his statewide push to deliver meaningful property tax relief by highlighting his taxpayer empowerment plan at an event in Bullard.
“Every Texan wants lower property taxes,” said Governor Abbott. “This plan gives Texans the power to make that a reality. By voting to approve this measure, we will get real property tax reform across the finish line, protect homeowners from out-of-control tax hikes, and ensure Texans keep more of the money they earn.”
The Governor was joined by local leaders and supporters including Senator Bryan Hughes, Representative Daniel Alders, Representative Jay Dean, Representative Cody Harris, Representative Cole Hefner, Representative Joanne Shofner, and State Director for Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Genevieve Collins.
“Texans deserve a property tax system that is transparent, accountable, and puts taxpayers, not government, first,” said State Director of AFP Genevieve Collins. “Governor Abbott’s plan gives homeowners a greater voice by requiring voter approval before local governments raise property taxes. These reforms will protect families, strengthen communities, and deliver lasting relief for generations to come.”
Governor Abbott emphasized that local governments continue to drive up tax bills through unchecked rate increases. His taxpayer empowerment plan would require voter approval for property tax increases, giving Texans a direct voice while creating long-term accountability and delivering meaningful relief for homeowners across the state.
Governor Abbott’s Five-Point Property Tax Relief Plan:
- Require Common Sense Local Spending Limits
- Require Two-Thirds Voter Approval for Tax Increases
