AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today held a roundtable meeting with East Texas community leaders at the New Days Community Church in Tyler. The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss pertinent issues facing East Texas and the importance of community outreach. Nearly 50 local leaders in East Texas participated in the roundtable, including pastors, city officials, educators, and those in the social services sector.

“In order for our communities to flourish, it is imperative that we listen to the needs and concerns of those within them,” said Governor Abbott. “It was an honor to join local leaders today to discuss the issues facing East Texas, including educational and economic opportunity. I look forward to continuing our conversation and developing collaborative solutions that will ensure every Texan has an opportunity to succeed in our great state.”

“Governor Abbott continues to prioritize the needs of communities across Texas, and I’m grateful that he led today’s important discussion,” said New Days’ Pastor Reginald Garrett. “I look forward to working alongside him in order to meet the needs of those in East Texas.”
