HUNTSVILLE – Governor Greg Abbott today met with rural Texans, law enforcement officers, and sheriffs to discuss his affordability agenda, public safety initiatives, and Texas’ ongoing efforts to keep dangerous repeat offenders behind bars. Governor Abbott was joined by Representative Trey Wharton, local elected officials, and leaders in law enforcement, business, and agriculture.
“Texans want safe communities and secure borders,” said Governor Abbott. “I will ensure they have them. Through expanding public safety efforts like the Repeat Offender Task Force, appointing a statewide prosecutor to keep district attorneys in line, and imposing a mandatory prison sentence for teachers who have inappropriate relations with students, we will have the safest state to live in with the very best officers around.”
During the discussion, the Governor addressed his Affordability Agenda that will save the average Texas family $4,000 a year. He also outlined his guidelines and guardrails for data center development, including protections for water resources, and requirements for data centers to bring their own power and return electricity to the grid.
