Governor Abbott Signs Border Security Legislation

In the absence of federal action, Governor Greg Abbott is taking action to secure our border and make Texas safer.

In Houston today, Governor Abbott signed legislation that will accelerate DPS’s hiring of troopers for the border region, provide additional training and equipment along the border, and give prosecutors additional tools necessary to crack down on transnational gangs and cartels involved in human and drug smuggling. In a statement, Governor Abbott said,

I’m proud to sign legislation to implement measures that will help provide for the safety and security of communities across Texas.”

The legislation also establishes a Child Sex Trafficking Prevention Unit.
