SHERMAN – Governor Greg Abbott today met with residents at MG’s Burger Restaurant, a longtime local diner in Sherman known for classic American fare and a welcoming community atmosphere, to discuss how lowering the cost of living can strengthen rural communities. Governor Abbott was joined by Representative Shelley Luther.
“My goal is to empower Texans to keep more money in their pockets,” Governor Abbott said. “That is why my affordability agenda will make Texas the most affordable state in the nation. By cutting healthcare costs, property taxes, and insurance rates, we can save Texans thousands of dollars a year.”
During the roundtable, Governor Abbott met with local leaders to address questions across various topics from affordability and property taxes to education and border security. Regarding public school funding, the Governor highlighted his record $90 billion investment in Texas public schools, including $4 billion for teacher and staff pay raises and the Teacher Incentive Allotment, which rewards the best teachers with higher salaries. Governor Abbott also spoke about the $7.5 billion federal reimbursement for Texas’ efforts to secure the southern border. He also discussed his Texas Taxpayer Empowerment plan to cut property taxes in Grayson County and across the state. Finally, the Governor discussed his Abbott Affordability Agenda and how it will make Texas the most affordable state in the country.
