MCALLEN – Governor Greg Abbott today joined Texas workers in the Rio Grande Valley for a roundtable at STI group, where he highlighted Texas’ robust economy and steady job growth while outlining his plan to make Texas the most affordable state in America. Governor Abbott was joined by McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos.
“Texas is the economic engine of America, and we are creating more good-paying jobs and opportunities for hardworking Texans than ever before,” said Governor Abbott. “I am on a mission to make Texas the No. 1 most affordable state in America. We will do so by slashing the average Texas homeowner’s property taxes in half, cutting the cost of home and auto insurance through fortified roof and good driver programs, and allowing every Texan the opportunity to graduate from college sooner and save money along the way.”
During the roundtable, Governor Abbott highlighted Texas’ investment over the next 20 years to strengthen water infrastructure and ensure reliable water supplies for communities across the state. He also discussed his Affordability Agenda, including his five-point property tax plan and efforts to lower housing, healthcare, insurance, and electricity costs, while making college more affordable. The Governor also highlighted the $400 million roof fortification program to help eligible homeowners strengthen their roofs against severe weather. The conversation included a lighthearted exchange about his dogs, Peaches and Biscuit.
