Governor Greg Abbott Addresses GOP State Convention, Shows Clear Contrast With Opponent

HOUSTON – Tonight, Governor Greg Abbott spoke before a large crowd of supporters at the Republican Party of Texas’ 2022 State Convention in Houston where he showed a stark contrast between his policies and those of his opponent. The welcome reception he hosted, held at The Rustic, was attended by more than 1500 convention attendees.

Governor Abbott was introduced by Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council. Governor Abbott lauded Judd and his Border Patrol agents for their hard work calling them “American heroes” who have “been abandoned by Joe Biden.” The Governor highlighted the work he’s done to secure the southern border.

“Texas has done more than any state in history to secure our border. We’ve deployed National Guard and DPS Troopers who have arrested and jailed illegal immigrants they encounter. We’ve built a Texas border wall and are negotiating for another 30 miles of new wall along the border as we speak. And, Operation Lone Star officers have seized enough deadly fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in the entire United States of America,” said Governor Abbott.

The Governor also noted the detrimental impact that Beto O’Rourke could have on border security saying, “The only thing worse than Biden’s open border policies, would be Robert Francis O’Rourke helping Biden with those open border policies here in Texas. I’m running for re-election to ensure that Texas continues to lead American states in securing our border.”

Governor Abbott also addressed the record cost of gasoline, sky-high inflation, and the shortage of goods seen under President Biden. “Biden has been a disaster as President. It’s more than just his open border policies. We’ve seen skyrocketing inflation, mothers are not able to get baby formula to feed their children, and lawlessness is spreading in crime ridden cities across America,” said Governor Abbott.

However, Governor Abbott pointed out that it could get even worse. “You think gasoline prices are high now? They’d be through the roof if Robert Francis O’Rourke was Governor. His embrace of the Green New Deal would crush the Texas oil and gas sector,” said the Governor.

Although America is facing some economic headwinds, Governor Abbott pointed out the strides that Texas has made under his leadership. He said, “Texas is America’s economic juggernaut. We have the fastest growing GDP in America in the last quarterly report, and since 2019, we have added far more jobs than any other state. We’re now home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state. Most importantly, more Texans have jobs today than ever before in the history of our state. I’m running for re-election to keep Texas the number one state in America for economic opportunity.”

Governor Abbott pointed out the stark difference between his policies and those of his opponent, Beto O’Rourke. He said, “Radical Leftist policies do more harm to our economy, they endanger our communities.  One of those policies is defunding law enforcement, a policy embraced by my opponent, Beto O’Rourke. We’ve seen this policy destroy liberal led cities across the country including San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago.”

Governor Abbott also noted the need for parents to have more control over their child’s education, and the importance of safe schools.

The Governor closed out his speech by unveiling his campaign’s “Beto Truth Response Unit,” and BetoLies.com which are meant to educate Texans on the many flip-flops and lies his opponent has told. He told the energized crowd of Republicans that, “We’ll beat the hell out of Beto. We’ll keep Texas red up and down the ballot. Most importantly we will preserve the values that have made Texas, Texas.”
