AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today toured the Texas Carpenters and Millwrights Training Center in Pasadena, Texas and participated in a roundtable discussion with leaders of local labor organizations. During the roundtable meeting, Governor Abbott heard from leaders about the challenges facing their members and he discussed strategies to grow the economy, create more jobs, and increase wages for Texans. Over 30 members of local labor organizations contributed to the roundtable.

“By preparing the next generation of workers, you are ensuring that the very best workers across all sectors are being trained right here in Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “That is vital not only for your industry, but for the future of the Texas economy.  I look forward to continuing to work with you to work toward a better future for our state.”

Since Governor Abbott took office, Texas has:

  • Created more than 825,000 new jobs
  • Hit a record low in unemployment
  • Been named the best state for business by both CNBC and Chief Executive Magazine
