Governor Greg Abbott Wins Republican Primary, Shows Clear Contrast With Opposition

CORPUS CHRISTI – Tonight, Governor Greg Abbott won the 2022 Texas Republican Primary. Accepting the Republican nomination at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi in front of a crowd of more than 600 supporters, Governor Abbott thanked all the volunteers and voters that voted for him.

“Tonight, Republicans sent a message. They want to keep Texas on the extraordinary path of opportunity that we have provided over the past eight years. A Texas where working families can flourish under the ninth largest economy in the world. A Texas where students are prepared and inspired for college or a career. A Texas that supports our law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe. A Texas where we protect your constitutional rights and individual liberties. A Texas where everyone has a path to prosperity,” said Governor Abbott.

On the stage with Governor Abbott were the ten Governor’s Cup Texas has won. Governor Abbott said, “They go to the state with the best job creation and capital investment in the country, and every year that I’ve been Governor, we have won this prestigious award. These awards don’t belong to me though. They belong to the people of Texas. Businesses large and small and their hardworking employees all across the state of Texas won these Governor’s Cups. You have all contributed to making Texas the best state for business.”

Governor Abbott noted that under his leadership, Texas is the number one exporting state, the number one state for tech exports, the number one state to start a small business, and the ninth largest economy in the world. Also, despite the unprecedented times we have faced in the last few years, more Texans have a job now than ever before.

Governor Abbott told the crowd gathered outside the aquarium, “I am running for Governor to bolster a Parents’ Bill of Rights to restore parents as the primary decision makers over their child’s education and healthcare. No government program can or should replace the role of parents in their child’s education, because parents matter.”

“One of the greatest safety threats to all Texans is President Biden’s reckless and dangerous open border policy. But under my leadership, Texas is doing more than any state ever to secure our border. I deployed 10,000 Texas National Guard and DPS officers as part of Operation Lone Star. They are arresting hardened criminals trying to sneak into Texas and have seized enough deadly fentanyl to kill millions of Americans,” said Governor Abbott.

To loud applause, Governor Abbott also detailed the work he has done to secure the Texas border. “Now Texas is building our own border wall. Last June, I signed papers to begin the process of building the wall, and by December wall started going up. It’s going up faster and cheaper than President Trump’s wall,” said Governor Abbott.

But Governor Abbott pointed out that he and his general election opponent have distinctly different visions for the future of Texas. Governor Abbott said, “Where we have cut taxes, they would raise them. Where we have created jobs, they would destroy them. Where we have supported our law enforcement officers, they would defund them. Where we have protected your Constitutional rights, they threaten to take them away. Where we have promoted Texas exceptionalism they stoke fear-mongering,” said Governor Abbott.

Governor Abbott also detailed the job killing policies that Democrats would impose on Texans saying, “My opponent has threatened to impose Green New Deal policies that would kill energy jobs throughout Texas. I am running for reelection to protect those energy jobs, that just a few years ago, made America energy independent.”

He closed by saying, “Mark my words, your very freedom is on the ballot this election.”
