In his State of the State speech, Governor Greg Abbott designated border security one of his five emergency items. Governor Abbott’s goals for border security are to:
- Expand funding for DPS border security by almost double
- Recruit, train and deploy 500 additional state troopers to the border
- Increase manpower, technology and tools for added border surveillance
