AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott announced today the support of 16 healthcare groups in a video released online.

“I’m proud to have the support of such a diverse group of healthcare organizations. The health of Texans is one of my foremost priorities. Our front line healthcare providers have worked tirelessly to keep Texans healthy, and they all deserve our praise and support.”

“Governor Greg Abbott has been a champion for Texas physicians and protecting the practice of medicine. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Abbott worked tirelessly with our physician members to establish safety protocols and expand access to lifesaving treatments. Gov. Abbott also fought to bring more physicians to Texas to increase access to care during this trying time. This session, Gov. Abbott worked with the legislature to pass meaningful bills for all aspects of medicine, including removing red tape many physicians and patients face when seeking care and routine screenings. TEXPAC is proud to endorse Governor Greg Abbott for his re-election and we look forward to continuing to advocate for physicians across the great state of Texas,” said Jimmy Widmer, MD, the Texas Medical Association’s TEXPAC Chair.

Debbie Garza, CEO of the Texas Pharmacy Association, said, “Throughout his career, Governor Abbott has been a resolute advocate for the Texas health care industry. From pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, to the pharmacies and hospitals where they work, to the patients they serve, Governor Abbott has made the health of Texans one of his top priorities.”

“With our state’s hospitals battling on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Abbot’s steadfast support of the Texas health care industry has been crucial to ensuring Texans remain healthy and safe,” said John Hawkins, president/CEO of the Texas Hospital Association, which represents nearly 500 hospitals and health care systems across the state. “Governor Abbott’s continued leadership will allow hospitals to keep leading the nation in innovative treatments and advances in health care technology while serving the needs of Texans. We look forward to working with the governor as he prioritizes the health and wellbeing of Texans,” said Hawkins.

With their endorsement, the board of Champions for Community Hospitals issued the following statement: “Despite constant federal overreach, the Lone Star State’s Medicaid financing system has been strengthened, and $11 billion in Medicaid funding that supports Texas’ most vulnerable has been preserved thanks to the leadership of Governor Abbott. Over the past eight years, access to care for more than four million Texans who rely on Medicaid has been expanded. Champions for Community Hospitals is proud to endorse Greg Abbott for re-election and looks forward to working alongside him to create better health outcomes for all Texans.”

“Texas Nurse Practitioners PAC is proud to endorse Governor Greg Abbott for re-election,” said Rick Roberts, Chair of the Texas Nurse Practitioners PAC.” “Governor Abbott has supported the Lone Star State’s frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic by waiving regulations and cutting red tape in our health care system to enable nurse practitioners to do what they do best–provide much-needed care to more patients.
