AUSTIN – When faced with the choice, Gina Hinojosa picked violent criminals over the safety and security of Texas families. From cutting funding for state and local law enforcement to releasing repeat criminals who terrorize Texas streets, Hinojosa’s actions put Texas lives at risk.

“Lying Gina doesn’t want Texans to know about her insane public safety record. As one of the most liberal, progressive members of the Texas Legislature, Gina championed defunding the police and voted to keep violent criminals on our streets. Gina is pro-criminal and anti-cop – she is too radical and too dangerous for Texas.”

— Eduardo Leal, Texans for Greg Abbott Press Secretary

Gina Hinojosa champions the “Defund the Police” movement.

Time and again, Gina Hinojosa has voted for lawlessness. In Gina’s Texas, illegal immigrants charged with violent felonies – including rape, murder, and human trafficking – would roam free, and rogue district attorneys who fail to prosecute violent criminals would remain in power without repercussion.

  • In 2023, Hinojosa voted against legislation that holds elected prosecutors accountable and requires that they uphold the law. HB 17 (88R)
  • In 2025, Hinojosa voted against a constitutional amendment that would have denied bail to illegal immigrants who had been charged with a felony or violent crime. SJR 1 (89R)
  • In 2025, Hinojosa voted against legislation that cracks down on the revolving door bail system. HB 75 (89R)

When it comes to public safety, Gina Hinojosa is grossly out of touch. She voted to put illegal immigrants ahead of law abiding Texans and to protect sanctuary cities. She opposed building a border wall and border barriers, and supported deadly open border policies that invite illicit drugs and dangerous criminals into America.

  • In 2017, Hinojosa voted against legislation banning sanctuary cities in the State of Texas. SB 4 (85R)
  • In 2023, Hinojosa voted against major legislation to construct the Texas border wall and pay state and local law enforcement. SB 3 (88(4))
  • In 2023, Hinojosa voted against historic legislation creating a criminal offense for illegal entry into Texas from a foreign nation. SB 4 (88(4))
