Texas has three Tier One universities – which are recognized for their academic and research excellence: Rice University, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin.

California has nine Tier One universities – and New York has six. Texas should never lag behind states like California or New York when it comes to creating jobs for our graduates. To remain competitive in the years to come, we must elevate our national research standing.

Making Texas a top research state means we will continue to attract more investments and more businesses – and that directly translates into more jobs for our graduates. Texas currently has eight universities on the cusp of elevating to a Tier One status.

Greg Abbott’s higher education plan will elevate our national research standing and increase the number of Tier One universities in Texas. This will secure more research investment dollars, retain more of our top students and teachers, and ensure that we continue to economically out-perform other states for decades to come.
