KATY, Texas — In the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, CNN host Piers Morgan has called for much stricter gun control.

On Monday, Morgan came to the Houston area to find out why Texans love guns.

While he was doing interviews and shooting an AR-15 at Tactical Firearms, protesters lined up outside.

“He doesn’t want to hear anything that we have to say; he’s only doing this for ratings” said Janine Bounds of Splendora. “I mean, who watches his show?”

Plenty of Texans showed up to throw in their two cents’ worth about gun control.

Gary Harden, of Katy, said he managed to meet the host. “He gets credit for showing up, okay. But that’s about it,” Harden said. “He comes here to think he can change our minds, but he doesn’t wanna come here to open his mind.”

One of the few people who did get to speak his mind on “Piers Morgan Tonight” was Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

“When it comes to talking about limiting our rights, we need to have the right to defend ourselves whenever anyone tries to attack us,” Abbott said.

Musician and gun advocate Ted Nugent was another guest on Morgan’s program.

“99.9 percent of the gun owners in America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with today,” Nugent said. “Would you leave us the hell alone? Go after the nut jobs; go after the murderers, because I don’t know any.”

The crowd outside Tactical Firearms consisted of at least one former Piers Morgan guest — conservative Austin radio talk show host Alex Jones. Jones and Morgan butted heads after the Sandy Hook school shootings.

“I said, ‘Well, you claim that you won the debate, but I noticed that you haven’t invited me back,'”  Jones said. “He said, ‘Oh, you’ve already gotten enough fame.’ I said, ‘Listen, buddy: You have a half-million viewers; I have three million listeners.’”

Piers Morgan didn’t emerge to address the crowd, but he did mention the protesters on his @piersmorgan Twitter page:  “Rather large protest growing outside this Houston gun store now. Feels slightly tyrannical, ironically…#GunsInAmerica CNN 9pm”
