Attorney General Greg Abbott filed suit, joined 16 other states, challenging the president’s executive order against deporting certain illegal immigrants.

The suit filed in a South Texas federal court became the 31st lawsuit that Abbott, who made opposition to Obama a central part of his winning governor’s campaign, has filed against the Democrat’s administration.

Abbott is claiming that the president unlawfully rewrote laws passed by Congress when he used executive power to order immigrants with legal family members in the United States be allowed to receive work papers. The Nov. 20 order also removed the threat of deportation for those who met the criteria and applied for work papers.
