AUSTIN – Today the Texas Medical Association, TEXPAC, endorsed Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott for his 2010 General Election campaign.
“With the passage of the new Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, Texas physicians and patients need an attorney general who will protect their interests. General Abbott is a Texas giant in the field of patient advocacy,” said Susan Strate, MD, Chair of the TEXPAC Board of Directors. “He has demonstrated over the years that he stands solid for consumer rights and patient safety. We need his skill, wisdom, and leadership as we navigate the new frontier of health care delivery in Texas over the next decade.”
The Texas Medical Association Political Action Committee, TEXPAC, is the bipartisan political arm of the Texas Medical Association. With more than 43,000 physician and medical student members, the Texas Medical Association serves the people of Texas in matters of medical care, prevention and cure of disease, and the improvement of public health.
“The Texas Medical Association is one of the foremost organizations in the state bringing public attention and support to the medical community – and its members are greatly affected by the unconstitutional federal health care legislation. As Attorney General, I am committed to protecting Texans from the unconstitutional federal health care takeover and defending the interests of Texas’ health care community,” said Attorney General Abbott.
Attorney General Abbott and 19 bipartisan state attorneys general are challenging the constitutionality of the recently enacted federal health care law in federal court. The law infringes upon Americans’ constitutionally protected individual liberties, encroaches upon the states’ constitutionally guaranteed sovereignty, forces states to spend billions of additional dollars on entitlement programs, imposes an unconstitutional tax, and violates the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.
