EL PASO — Governor Greg Abbott today received the endorsement of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), a labor union representing thousands of frontline border security agents. This endorsement highlights steadfast support from those who risk their lives every day to protect Texas and secure America’s borders. The Governor was joined by NBPC President Paul Perez, El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association 1st Vice President Sgt. Victor Vela, NBPC President Paul Perez, Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition Executive Director Clint McDonald, several county sheriffs, and other endorsing groups and individuals, including the Game Warden Peace Officer’s Association.
“I cannot express enough gratitude for the support and endorsement for my reelection from the National Border Patrol Council,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank them for their service and sacrifice and for what they do every day. They represent the very best of who we are as a state. And as long as I’m Governor of Texas, I will always have their back.”
“Texans deserve a Governor who will continue to secure our border, defend our communities, and protect our way of life. That’s why the National Border Patrol Council is proud to endorse Governor Abbott for reelection,” said President of the National Border Patrol Council Paul Anthony Perez. “His historic actions reduced illegal crossings into Texas by 85%, saving countless lives. This past legislative session, he invested more than $3 billion in border security funding for the next two years to keep the southern border closed. Under his leadership, Texas is secure, and law enforcement is empowered to do their jobs to keep our communities safe.”
“Governor Abbott has always had our backs. As a retired sheriff and former Chief of Police, I know what real leadership looks like,” said Sheriff Clint McDonald. “I proudly support and endorse Governor Abbott, and will continue to stand with him as long as he is willing to lead this great state.”
“It is with great appreciation that I endorse Greg Abbott for another term as Governor of Texas,” said Brooks County Sheriff Urbino Martinez. “Governor Abbott has supported Brooks County through his years of service regarding our border security struggles. There is no one who better understands the needs and challenges of a small rural county in Texas.”
NBPC is the exclusive labor union representing approximately 18,000 Border Patrol agents and support personnel assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol, a key arm of federal border security efforts under the Department of Homeland Security. Founded in 1967 and maintaining one of the highest membership rates among federal law enforcement unions, the NBPC advocates for the rights, working conditions, legal protections, and professional interests of its members, providing legal support, collective bargaining representation, and a unified voice in federal policymaking. Its mission encompasses safeguarding the people who guard America’s borders and ensuring that agents have the resources, rights, and support needed to carry out their critical public safety duties effectively.
