ARLINGTON – Governor Greg Abbott today outlined his four public safety initiatives that aims to protect communities and prosecute criminals during a press conference at the Arlington Police Officers Association.
“Those who oppose common-sense public safety measures are siding with a system that puts violent criminals back on Texas streets,” said Governor Abbott. “Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to arrest dangerous offenders, only to see them released before the paperwork is even finished. That is unacceptable. Next session, we will take action to strengthen public safety and keep dangerous criminals off our streets.”
During his remarks, Governor Abbott highlighted the devastating impact soft-on-crime policies have on Texas communities—policies pushed by rogue district attorneys who would rather protect criminals instead of innocent Texans. Last session, Governor Abbott signed the strongest bail reform package in state history. Next session, he will fight for new public safety laws to protect communities, not criminals. This proposal includes:
- Automatically deny bail for illegal immigrants charged with felonies.
- Establish a Texas Statewide Prosecutor to ensure rogue district attorneys now prosecute violent crimes.
- Impeach woke district attorneys who fail to deliver justice to victims and their families.
- Expand the Department of Public Safety Repeat Offender Taskforce from Houston to Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin areas.
