EL PASO – Governor Greg Abbott today announced a new education initiative to cut administrative bloat and ensure taxpayer dollars are directed primarily to Texas classrooms.
“Texas has made historic investments in public education to give our teachers and students the resources they need to succeed,” said Governor Abbott. “Those dollars belong in the classroom, not wasted on bloated bureaucracy. Administrators must be held accountable for their reckless spending and diverting attention away from what really matters: the students.”
Governor Abbott’s proposal will rein in excessive administrative spending and require school districts to direct 70% of their spending to the classroom. By cutting unnecessary spending and burdensome administrative requirements, Texas will put more education dollars where they belong: supporting teachers, strengthening classrooms, and helping students succeed.
This month, Governor Abbott called for tougher laws to protect Texas students from sexual predators, proposed new limits on classroom screen time to put teachers and direct instruction back at the center of the classroom, unveiled Student Success Academies to improve reading and math achievement, and announced new action to eliminate foreign influence in Texas public schools.
