AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today joined education officials and local elected leaders for the grand opening of Texas A&M University’s new campus in McAllen, Texas. This historic new campus will provide top quality education for students in McAllen and throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The campus is a result of the ongoing partnership between Hidalgo County, the City of McAllen, and Texas A&M University.
“Today’s grand opening is a testament to the tremendous growth seen not only here in the Rio Grande Valley, but across the entire state of Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “As Texas looks to the future, we must focus on ways to create opportunities to sustain our growth, and this new campus is an investment in the workforce and the leaders of tomorrow. I thank Chairman Schwartz, Chancellor Sharp, President Young, the Board of Regents, and Mayor Darling for their work in making the opening of this campus possible.”
The $40 million campus will feature more than 61,000 square feet of space which will include classrooms, laboratories, an auditorium and various gathering spaces. The McAllen campus will offer programs in engineering, technology, biomedical sciences, agriculture and lab sciences.
