LUBBOCK — Governor Greg Abbott today endorsed Speaker Dustin Burrows for re-election to House District 83 and for another term as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives at a campaign reception in Lubbock.
“Dustin did a fantastic job as Speaker this session. He is consequential to the future of our state, and that’s why I endorse and support Dustin Burrows for re-election to his House seat and for re-election as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas is far better today than we were before Dustin Burrows was Speaker and I know Texas is going to be far better in the future when Lubbock returns Dustin Burrows to the Texas House and he is re-elected again as Speaker of the House for two more years.”
During his remarks, Governor Abbott praised Speaker Burrows for his leadership during the 89th Legislative Session. He noted the Speaker’s ability to lead in crisis, deliver results, and stand firm for conservative values. Governor Abbott also underscored the significance of President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Speaker Burrows—not only for re-election to the Texas House, but also for re-election as Speaker.
Governor Abbott highlighted several accomplishments passed by the Texas House under Speaker Burrows’ leadership, specifically his efforts to pass critical camp safety and flood relief bills in the wake of deadly Fourth of July floods in the Texas Hill Country, to pass the strongest bail reform laws in state history to keep dangerous criminals off Texas streets, and to support the economic development and health care needs of rural Texans.
