FRISCO – Governor Greg Abbott today hosted a Texas Taxpayer Empowerment Event where he outlined his new property tax reform plan and reaffirmed his commitment to putting Texas taxpayers first. Speaking to Texans about the need for lasting relief, Governor Abbott highlighted the state’s strong economic foundation and outlined how his plan will ensure families can continue to thrive in a state where opportunity and affordability go hand in hand.

“We are going to put the power back where it belongs, with the people of Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “We will end out of control property taxes and ensure every Texan can afford to raise their family in the greatest state in America.”

Governor Abbott highlighted Texas’ leadership in aerospace, AI, and advanced industries, proving that the Texas model of low taxes and limited government is powering an economy that is growing twice as fast as the nation. He emphasized the importance of keeping life affordable by cutting childcare costs, expanding access to health care, and investing in modern mental health facilities. The Governor also underscored Texas’ leadership in housing affordability, with the state ranking number one in America for new home construction — a direct result of conservative policies that put freedom and economic opportunity first.

“We have the best Governor in America,” said Senator Brent Hagenbuch.

“None of the things we accomplished last session could have been done without Governor Abbott’s leadership,” said Representative Jared Patterson.

“It’s time to give the power back to the people and that’s what the Governor’s five point plan will do,” said State Director for Texas at Americans for Prosperity Genevieve Collins.

Governor Abbott’s 5 Point Property Tax Relief Plan:

  • Require Common Sense Local Spending Limits
  • Require Two-Thirds Voter Approval for Tax Increases
