WESLACO – Governor Greg Abbott today spoke to an energized crowd of conservative Texas voters at CIL Shipping to highlight his five-point plan to empower Texas taxpayers and cut property taxes for homeowners, ensuring Texas remains the most affordable place to live, work, and run a business.

“This must be a citizen-led effort. You need to be involved in the process every step of the way from now until the election,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas homeowners want the abolishment of their school district property taxes. The time has passed to make that a reality. If you own a home in Texas, you should be able to afford to live in that home.”

Governor Abbott called on every member of the Texas Legislature to stand with taxpayers and deliver meaningful, lasting, property tax relief for Texans.

“I’m glad to be here to hear the Governor’s next great property tax plan for our great state,” said Representative Denise Villalobos.

“Governor Abbott knows that the Texas dream depends on hard work, on responsibility, and on a fair shot for every family, not on government taking more of our money out of our wallets,” said Representative Ryan Guillen. “That’s why he’s been relentless in his mission to make life more affordable and to ensure that Texas remains the best place in America to live, to work, and to raise a family.”

“Governor Abbott has a bright vision for the state of Texas, and part of that is being a taxpayer champion,” said Americans for Prosperity State Director Genevieve Collins. “This property tax reform plan is going to systematically change how we’re taxed, and it’s going to keep more money in our wallets.”

Governor Abbott’s 5-Point Property Tax Relief Plan:

  • Require Common Sense Local Spending Limits
  • Require Two-Thirds Voter Approval for Tax Increases
  • Empower Voters to Roll Back Taxes

  • Eliminate School Property Taxes for Homeowners
