GEORGETOWN – Governor Abbott last night touted the bold, conservative victories passed during the 89th Regular Legislative Session that defend Texas values during his keynote address at the second annual Texas Republican County Chairmen’s Association (TRCCA) Convention. The Governor also ceremonially signed two key laws passed during the 89th Regular Legislative session that strengthened Texas’ election integrity.
“The loss of life from the most devastating floods is truly incomprehensible,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas’ trademark is resilience, going back from the battle of the Alamo all the way to the floods that took place this year. Our goal this session is to rebuild communities and better prepare to deal with dangerous flash floods. This special session comes on the heels of a very successful regular session where I signed six of the seven priorities of the Republican Party of Texas. Because of our county chairs, Texas is the best state in the greatest nation in the history of the world.”
During his keynote address to a crowd of over 200 Republican supporters and state and local officials, Governor Abbott recognized the devastating impact recent flooding has had on communities in the Hill Country and across Texas, while highlighting the strength and resilience shown by Texans. The Governor also outlined the top priorities of the current special session, including strengthening early warning systems, improving emergency communications, streamlining disaster response regulations, and delivering direct relief to impacted families.
Additionally, Governor Abbott celebrated the landmark conservative victories achieved during the 89th Regular Legislative Session—calling it one of the most successful in Texas history. He highlighted the passage of the Parental Bill of Rights, the removal of explicit materials from public schools, and a new state law affirming that there are only two sexes. The Governor also championed legislation banning DEI in public schools and continuing the fight against radical, woke ideologies in Texas classrooms.
Governor Abbott then ceremonially signed two major election integrity laws: House Bill 5115 that makes election fraud a second-degree felony and Senate Bill 2753 that expands early voting while ensuring ballot security on Election Day.
The Governor was joined by Congressman Tony Gonzales, Congressman Pete Sessions, Railroad Commission Chairman Jim Wright, Senator Pete Flores, Senator Bob Hall, Senator Brent Hagenbuch, Senator Joan Huffman, Senator Bryan Hughes, Senator Mayes Middleton, Representative Daniel Alders, Representative David Cook, Representative Caroline Harris Davila, Representative Hillary Hickland, Representative Carrie Isaac, Representative Stan Kitzman, Representative Matt Shaheen, Representative Carl Tepper, TRCCA President David Luther, TRCCA Vice President David Stein, and other state and local officials.
