TYLER – Governor Greg Abbott today outlined his plan to deliver real property tax relief for homeowners during a Texas Taxpayer Empowerment event at ETX Brewing Company.
“Texas is leading the nation in growth,” said Governor Abbott. “We are building more homes than any other state, but homeowners still need relief from out-of-control property taxes. This past legislative session, Texas delivered a historic $51 billion in tax relief for hardworking families and business owners, but there’s still more work to do. Spiking appraisals and local government tax hikes are wiping out the savings of hardworking Texans. Next session, we will overhaul the property tax system to give Texans the power to stop local governments from hiking your property taxes.”
Governor Abbott also highlighted the seven property tax measures overwhelmingly approved by voters this November, emphasizing that they represent a major step towards keeping Texas affordable.
Governor Abbott’s 5 Point Property Tax Relief Plan:
- Require Common Sense Local Spending Limits
- Require Two-Thirds Voter Approval for Tax Increases
- Empower Voters to Roll Back Taxes
- Create Appraisal Predictability and Cap Appraisal Growth
- Eliminate School Property Taxes for Homeowners
