In his State of the State speech, Governor Greg Abbott designated early childhood education as one of his five emergency items. The Governor’s goals are to:
- Improve teacher skills and student learning in critical years
- Have every child doing math or reading at grade level by the third grade
- Provide funding to districts that opt to implement a high quality, accountable gold standard program
- Develop research based professional development for prekindergarten teachers
